What to do if a product is recalled

RecallPulse guide · 2026-11-07

If a product you own appears in a CPSC recall, act quickly: stop using it if the notice says so, match the exact model, then follow the manufacturer's remedy.

1. Stop using it when the notice says so

Many recalls involve fire, shock, choking, tip-over or chemical hazards. If the notice says stop use or stop charging, do that first — before you shop for a replacement.

2. Match brand, model and dates

  1. Find the recall on RecallPulse product recalls or by brand.
  2. Compare model/SKU, manufacture dates, and lot codes on your item or packaging.
  3. Read the official CPSC notice linked from the recall (also at cpsc.gov/Recalls).

3. Claim the remedy

  • Typical remedies: refund, replacement, repair, or a free fix kit.
  • Use the contact phone/URL on the official notice — not a random social post.
  • Keep proof of purchase if you have it; some remedies still work without a receipt.

4. Report problems

Injuries or near-misses should go to SaferProducts.gov so CPSC can track patterns. For food, drugs, devices or cosmetics, see FDA channels instead — see our agency guide.
